Sūrat al-Māʿūn (Arabic: سورة الماعون‎) (Small Kindnesses, Almsgiving, Have You Seen) is the 107th sura of the Qur'an with 7 ayat.

This Surah was revealed in Madina where a myriad of factions were conspiring to contain the growing Islamic influence. The Surah discusses the character of those who claim to be Muslims but are oblivious of the hereafter. These people deprive the orphans of their rights, are heedless to the dues of the destitute, and pray without holding God in remembrance, forgetting the objective behind prayer. Their charitable acts are a display of their false piety, since they do not give for the love of God.

English Translation of verses

English Translation by Muhammad Shameem, Mohammad Wali Raazi and Muhammad Taqi Usmani:[1]

Have you seen him who denies the Requital? [1] So he is the same one who pushes away the orphan. [2] and does not persuade (others) to feed the needy. [3] So, woe to those performers of salah, [4] who are neglectful of their salah, [5] who (do good only to) show off, [6] and refuse (to give even) small gifts. [7]

English Translation by Mohammed Marmaduke Pickthall:[2][3]

Hast thou observed him who belieth religion? [1] That is he who repelleth the orphan, [2] And urgeth not the feeding of the needy. [3] Ah, woe unto worshippers [4] Who are heedless of their prayer; [5] Who would be seen (at worship) [6] Yet refuse small kindnesses! [7]

English Translation by Yusuf Ali:.[4][5]

Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? [1] Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), [2] And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. [3] So woe to the worshippers [4] Who are neglectful of their prayers, [5] Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), [6] But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs. [7]
